ALCS Loses Long Time Web Manager

October 9, 2026

On August 7th, ALCS lost our long term web manager, Janet Hodge. While she was sick, and undergoing chemo, she did her best to keep things updated for us, but some lags in posting news items and editing the webpage happened. But if anyone was wondering why ALCS has not posted any news items for a long time, this is why.

“I am super old school,” says ALCS president Josh First. “Janet was also old school; heck, she defined old school, even and especially for the Smithsonian Institution, which is saying a lot, and the way we ran our websites, particularly this one at ALCS, was truly throwback methodology. Plenty of days we just sat and talked, instead of focusing on the work. And this approach suited us both just right. I was honored to work with Janet, who was a conservation leader in West Virginia and a nationally recognized voice on traditional Appalachian culture. I miss her a lot.”

Janet’s official obituary is here.

ALCS is seeking a new website manager. Please contact us at 717-232-8335, if you think you can help us. We seek a mature, non-ideologically driven professional, whom we can trust.
