Appalachian Land & Conservation Services Congratulates Pittsburgh Steelers Football Team

Harrisburg, PA (February 6, 2006) --  Appalachian Land & Conservation Services Co. congratulated the Pittsburgh Steelers football team and its owners, the Rooney family, for their Super Bowl win yesterday.

“The Steelers’ win yesterday is as much about the players as it is about the coaching and the owners’ attitudes,” said ALCS president and CEO Josh First.

Said First, “Head coach Bill Cowher’s relationship with Art Rooney and the rest of the Rooney family is an example of the way the NFL should be run.  Frankly, it is a rare and needed model for the business and professional world, too:  Loyalty, trust, earning and giving respect, setting reasonable goals and rewarding success are qualities that are hard to come by anywhere these days.  The importance and continued relevance of these old-fashioned values and relationships is what this win means to me and many other Steelers fans.”

Appalachian's president, Josh First, was actively engaged in getting this legislation passed for two-and-a-half years.  For more than a year he served as the coordinator of the Abandoned Mine Lands Campaign, and then spent more time drumming up grass roots support for the legislation as a member of the coalition and as a contractor for the Pennsylvania Environmental Council.  "I am proud to have worked closely with such a fine group from the environmental and coal field communities," said First.  "This is a win-win for both the environment and for coal operators, who will now get the support they need to aggressively re-mine abandoned mine lands and simultaneously reclaim them and beautify them."
