Appalachian Land & Conservation Services Congratulates Penn State Football Team

Harrisburg, PA (January 4, 2006) --  Appalachian Land & Conservation Services Co. congratulated Penn State University’s football team and head coach Joe Paterno for their historic Orange Bowl win today.

ALCS president & CEO Josh First said “I share the emotion and sense of pride that all other PSU fans and alumni feel, and as a State College native and a graduate of Penn State I feel them especially strongly.  Joe Paterno and his unique football program are about more than just sports: Both institutions are about good sportsmanship and personal conduct, pursuing excellence in all aspects of life, and always maintaining a positive spirit.  That tradition was clearly on display today”

“I have always been proud to be a PSU grad,” said First, “but today the nation was able to see why so many PSU alumni and fans share an undying and unique commitment to Joe Paterno and PSU’s football team.”

Appalachian's president, Josh First, was actively engaged in getting this legislation passed for two-and-a-half years.  For more than a year he served as the coordinator of the Abandoned Mine Lands Campaign, and then spent more time drumming up grass roots support for the legislation as a member of the coalition and as a contractor for the Pennsylvania Environmental Council.  "I am proud to have worked closely with such a fine group from the environmental and coal field communities," said First.  "This is a win-win for both the environment and for coal operators, who will now get the support they need to aggressively re-mine abandoned mine lands and simultaneously reclaim them and beautify them."
